does gear ratio matter when changing differential housings on a 1981 cj5?

i’m taking out a dana 30, differential housing and all, out of a 1981 cj5 and replacing it with another dana 30, but out of a 1979 cj5. i’m also doing the same in the rear. except i’ll be swapping amc 20 for amc 20. if the gear ratios are not the same, will it matter at all for the transmission or the transfer case?

Gear ratio does indeed matter. The gear needs to be in 20 amc at all times or else it stalls.
